Letter from the President and Vice President
Judy and I would like to introduce ourselves as not only new members of the DMCC but your new President and Vice-President. Judy continues to be gainfully employed with SmithBarney in downtown Des Moines and I am retired but have a part-time job, so for the most part I have time to deal with the details of DMCC administration.
We come from many years of cross training and are not obsessive compulsive cyclists, but enjoy getting out to maintain a quality of life.
A message I want to emphasis is that nothing ever happens without PEOPLE, PEOPLE make things happen, look all over the metro area, where’s the action, where are things getting done, it’s where people with special interests are. There are ten’s of thousands of people out there with a special interest in biking. Bikers who are people ready to step up to the plate if only asked, so when we ask, it’s because we know you can help make it happen! It really is an honor to serve, help us by serving the DMCC.
A new year, a new day in the structure and organization of DMCC with lots of positive energy generated by the new and existing board members.
The board is committed to embrace riders from every level to have an enjoyable and rewarding experience. The DMCC is committed to YOU!
Membership offers several things to you and the DMCC. It offers the club an opportunity to know the value of your resources and the club an opportunity to plan because of your financial commitment. With a new or renewal DMCC membership we will send you a coupon card redeemable for $10 off any purchase of $50 dollars or more at participating metro bike shops. This means your membership in the DMCC will only cost you $5 with a bike shop purchase.
Monthly meetings May thru September with featured speakers on a variety of subjects including training for RAGRABI, food and nutrition, new bicycle and accessory technology, safety and road riding safety, bike maintenance with qualified presenters followed by question and answer sessions. Food and refreshments available.
Organized rides are in the planning stages with some already listed on the dmcycleclub web site. So far these are rides beginning at local bike shops and some have been organized for some time, others are new including the one on Thurs-day for Colby Park in Windsor Heights. A Ragbrai training ride, probably Saturday morn-ing is a must. We welcome and encourage new rides with new groups from all areas of the metro area. Don’t hesitate to step up to the plate and help, it’s rewarding and fun. Call Tom 255-7047, Jack 306-7946 or Judy 208-5987.
